ajax ... everything

By Jennifer Maddrell - Posted on 23 April 2006

As we've seen (and tried), there are a lot of fun and useful ajax enabled web based tools like writely.com (gobbled by Google).  Here are a few new ones created by Ajax13 along with the descriptions from the web sites (in italics) bringing us ever closer to a web versus desktop platform for all of our favorite productivity applications.  While they provide a quick alternative, most lack the functionality of writely (storage, collaboration, post to blog, RSS feeds).  However, they do give a sneak peek into the future . . .
  • ajaxWrite: The look, feel, and functionality of Word, in a completely web-based AJAX platform.
  • ajaxXLS: A web-based viewer application with a look and feel similar to Excel.
  • ajaxSketch: Great for diagramming, flow charts, free hand drawing, and more with a similar look and feel to popular drawing programs.
  • ajaxTunes: A web-based media player that lets you play, pause, forward and rewind high-quality streaming music straight from the Internet on any computer. In addition to listening to music from the pre-loaded playlists or from your own locker, you may also provide visitors to your website with the ability to click on a link and play a song or a playlist directly on ajaxTunes.
  • eyespot: Use the eyespot Mixer to edit and combine your videos, music and photos online! Share your video and mixes with the world for free.
