Volunteerism

I dug into volunteerism in the US to frame a reflection on service learning. The most current data I Ianded on comes from AmeriCorp. Here are the highlights from the Volunteering and Civic Life in America Research Summary from September 2020- September 21

  • Formal Volunteering: An estimated 23.2% of Americans (60.7 million) volunteered with organizations serving an estimated 4.1 billion hours with an economic value of $122.9 billion, down about 7 percentage points from before the pandemic.
  • Informal Helping: Americans informally helping others remained stable between 2019 and 2021 at around 51% (124.7 million).
